The Hashtag Becomes a Conference
-
The #Hashtag
The viral hashtag #notonmywatch was created by Rose L. Horton, MSM, RNC-OB, NEA-BC, FAAN, in 2017 because of her frustration at the rising rate of maternal morbidity and mortality. The hashtag is a call to action for her fellow nurses, as the largest healthcare employee contingent, to use their collective voices in caring for all birthing people.
Health care organizations and systems have an opportunity to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes by ensuring that processes are standardized, care is evidence based and promoting the use of an equity lens in quality improvement. We must amplify shared decision making and prioritize the voice and choice of women and birthing people.
-
The #Tenets
The five tenets and foundational pillars of #notonmywatch are:
Treat everyone with dignity and respect
Listen to and believe women
Provide evidence-based care
Commit to shared decision-making
Advocate for all birthing people
-
The #Plan
CDC reported that in 2022, 84% of maternal mortality cases were preventable. The numbers are going up not down; how do we improve care for the birthing community? Under the LLC, NotOnMyWatch Consulting Partners, Rose shares her call to action through consulting, public speaking locally, statewide, nationally, and through partnerships with national associations and corporations. But maybe there’s an additional way to be laser-focused and galvanize perinatal healthcare professionals to continue to adopt this vision and mentality.

The #Conference
Welcome to the inaugural #NOMW Conference, where birthworkers come together to learn, share, and grow. Attendees will leave inspired and committed to facilitating joy for the birthing community. As the old adage says, a rising tide lifts all boats, therefore, clinicians, providers and partners will also experience joy in their work.

Join us in making this event even more impactful: help us reach our diaper drive goal!
1 in 2 U.S. families struggles with diaper need. We want to change that. Babies without clean diapers are exposed to more potential health risks & less likely accepted to daycares, leaving parents unable to attend work. Let’s help ease that burden.
