Description/Objectives:
Today’s nurse leaders face increasing pressure to juggle multiple priorities with fewer resources. Competing demands for focus on quality & safety, patient experience, staff engagement & retention, and operational necessities create an environment of continual overburden. When everything is a priority, nothing can be. To address these challenges, we employed a collaborative quality improvement framework utilizing Lean methodology to quantify and classify nurse leader work, and identify opportunities to reduce waste.
Discuss the current reality for hospital nurse leaders.
Describe common causes of nurse leader burden.
Share methods to identify & quantify those causes.
Highlight data-driven approaches to advocate for change.
